Work-in-Progress and Work-already-Published (Wip/WaP) Session

  S C O P E  

The WiP/WaP Session at the Hot Topics in the Science of Security (HotSoS) symposium aims to provide researchers with an opportunity to receive early feedback on emerging research, discuss their ideas, present ongoing work, gather feedback from experts, and/or introduce work published in journals or elsewhere that is relevant to the science of security community. Specifically, the WiP/WaP session will feature presentations on

• Work-in-Progress (WiP) papers, and
• Work-already-Published (WaP).

The scope of the track covers all areas of science of security that include but not limited to:

• Resilient Architectures for designing and analyzing system architectures that deliver required service in the face of compromised components,
• Scalability and Composability for automating the construction of provably secure systems from components with known security properties,
• Policy Governed Secure Collaboration for handling data across different domains of authority while ensuring security and privacy,
• Security-Metrics-Driven Development and Evaluation for guiding choice-making in security engineering and response by assuring or predicting the security properties of cyber systems,
• Understanding and Accounting for Human Behavior, including modeling users, operators, and adversaries, to for enabling the design, modeling, and analysis of systems with specified security properties,
• Privacy Policy Enforcement for enabling the use (i.e., collect, store, and share) of data in accordance with requirements, and
• Foundations for the security of cyber-physical systems security and resilience, including applications to the Internet of Things. In keeping with the spirit of the main conference, submissions with an emphasis on scientific work which examines the foundations of trustworthy systems for security and privacy are especially encouraged.

The WiP/WaP session will be held during the main conference. By submitting a paper, the authors agree that, if accepted, at least one author will register for the conference and present the work.

** Work-in-Progress (WiP) Papers **

WiP submissions should focus on ongoing, unpublished work discussing evolving and early-stage ideas, new research directions, and current trends in the area. Submissions will be accepted based on their originality, quality, significance, and relevance to science of security. WiP submissions should be in the form of papers of up to 6 pages. Note that there is no requirement to present 6 pages of technical materials. Shorter submissions are welcomed, too, especially if they target early-stage ideas and open problems. WiP papers are not considered archival and a transfer of copyright is not required to allow for subsequent publication of the material in a full conference or journal paper. Authors of accepted WiP papers have the option to have the papers published in an informal online proceedings in the Science of Security Virtual Organization (https://cps-vo.org/group/SoS).

** Work-already-Published (WaP) **

A WaP submission should be an abstract of at most 2 pages of a previously published paper (in a journal, conference, arxiv, or other venue) explaining relevance to science of security and clearly citing the work being summarized. The intention of WaP presentations is to raise awareness of work published elsewhere that is relevant to the science of security community. Submissions will be considered for inclusion in the program based on relevance to the science of security. We welcome dual submissions and resubmissions of particularly relevant work. Accepted WaP submissions will not appear in any printed or online form since they are already published. Please feel free to inquire about the relevance of a work as a WiP/WaP by contacting the Conference Chairs.
