League of Women Voters of Carroll County Event: Featuring Queens of Code Talk
Date: Aug 22, 2024 4:00 pm – Aug 22, 2024 8:00 pm
Location: Westminster, MD
"Our event commemorates America’s passage of the 19th Constitutional Amendment granting women the right to vote. The League of Women voters has been nonpartisan since its founding in 1920, so the event is titled Celebrating Women’s Equality Day - A Nonpartisan Gathering. The reception is catered by The Chick (formerly the Food Chick), Eileen Buckholtz will speak about The Queens of Code Project, collected stories, experiences, and insights from women who worked in information technology at the National Security Agency in the 1960s through 80s. Just as Hidden Figures highlighted women’s contributions to the US Space Race, this project highlights women who served our nation in top secret roles, created innovations in technology, and expanded women’s career opportunities for the generations that followed. And, of course, our movie is Hidden Figures, an award-winning account of the women mathematicians in the aerospace program."
