"Researchers Uncover Security Gaps in the 5G Mobile Communication Standard"

An in-depth security analysis of the 5G mobile communication standard by researchers in the Information Security Group has revealed security gaps in the new standard. Although the 5G standard is an improvement over previous standards in terms of protecting data, there are still security gaps associated with the 5G Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) protocol that could allow traceability attacks to be performed on users. This article continues to discuss previous mobile communication standards, the security aims of the 5G AKA protocol, the tool used to examine the protocol, and findings of the analysis.
