"LV Ransomware Attack Targets German Semiconductor Manufacturer Semikron"
Semikron, a German power electronics manufacturer, has revealed that a ransomware attack partially encrypted its network. Semikron employs approximately 3,000 people across 24 offices and 8 production facilities in Germany, Brazil, China, France, India, Italy, Slovakia, and the United States, with projected revenue of $461 million in 2020. It also claims to be one of the leading manufacturers of power engineering components, with its innovations powering 35 percent of the annual installed base of wind turbines. As part of this attack, the perpetrators claimed to have stolen data from Semikron's system, according to a recently released statement from the company. Its IT systems and files have also been partially encrypted as a result of the attack. The entire network is currently being forensically examined and adjusted. The German Federal Office for Information Security has issued a warning that the developers of the ransomware are extorting the company and threatening to reveal allegedly stolen data. Though the company did not provide any information about the ransomware used in the incident, a ransom note on one of the encrypted Semikron systems reveals it was an LV Ransomware attack and claims the perpetrators stole 2TB of data. This article continues to discuss the ransomware attack against the German manufacturer of power electronics Semikron.
