"GAO Warns Coast Guard of IT and OT Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities"
The US Coast Guard intends is planning to invest $93 million in fiscal year 2022 to upgrade its IT systems and infrastructure in order to address long-standing problems. However, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Coast Guard is still failing to fully assess its IT network capacity needs and include all of its Operational Technology (OT) in its cybersecurity efforts. The GAO has made recommendations to the Coast Guard in order to improve IT implementation and security. The Coast Guard is advised to develop network capacity planning policies and procedures that address the leading practices identified by GAO, such as compiling a complete and accurate inventory of hardware, software, and configurations, identifying traffic growth predictions, prioritizing network traffic, and more.
