"Malware, Botnets, and Exploits All Soar in Second Quarter of 2022"
According to a new report by the Managed Security Service Providers (MSSP) Nuspire, malware events increased by more than 25 percent, botnets doubled, and exploit activity increased by nearly 150 percent in the second quarter of this year. Based on threat intelligence from Nuspire's trillion traffic logs, the report shows a significant increase in botnet activity near the end of Q2. This botnet activity has been attributed to the Torpig Mebroot botnet, a banking Trojan designed to scrape and collect credit card and payment information from infected devices. Manufacturing is the world's most attacked industry sector, according to data, with the LockBit ransomware gang and Dynamite Panda (APT18) being two of the most serious threats in the second quarter. Since basic attacks such as phishing remain effective, it is clear that organizations must strengthen their fundamental security practices such as patching and user awareness training. Organizations must also conduct regular reviews of their security programs to protect against a never-ending stream of potentially serious disruptive threats. This article continues to discuss key findings from Nuspire's analysis of traffic logs.
