"Less Than 5% Of Public Companies Use the Latest Email Security Standards"

Phishing remains the most common type of cyberattack. The Anti-Phishing Working Group observed the most phishing attacks in history in the first quarter of 2022, as the quarterly volume of attacks surpassed 1 million for the first time. Organizations worldwide have Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) and Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) to help them. However, it was discovered using proprietary data from BIMI Radar that while more than half (51.2 percent) of S&P 500 companies have adopted DMARC, only 2.4 percent have fully adopted BIMI. The figures are similar among Fortune 500 companies, with 49.9 percent having already adopted DMARC and 3.2 percent having fully adopted BIMI. DMARC is an email security standard that protects domains from hacker impersonation, which is a precursor to most phishing attacks. BIMI expands on DMARC by displaying a company's registered trademark in the inbox of a recipient, establishing visual trust that the email message is truly from the sender. This article continues to discuss DMARC and BIMI, why phishing attacks remain a significant problem, and the adoption of Verified Mark Certificates (VMCs) to become BIMI-ready.
