"ORNL Launches Center for AI Security Research to Study AI's Impacts on Society, Security"

The Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has announced the establishment of the Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Security Research (CAISER) to address existing threats as governments and industries worldwide adopt AI to take advantage of the data processing, operational efficiencies, and decision-making advantages it promises. ORNL and CAISER, in collaboration with federal agencies such as the Air Force Research Laboratory's Information Directorate and the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate, will provide objective scientific analysis of the vulnerabilities, threats, and risks associated with emerging and advanced AI. Susan Hubbard, Deputy for Science and Technology at ORNL, noted that understanding the vulnerabilities and risks of AI is one of the greatest scientific challenges today. This article continues to discuss the CAISER launched by ORNL.
