"ORNL Wins Five Federal Laboratory Consortium Awards"

Researchers, staff, and licensees from the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) were honored in the Federal Laboratory Consortium's (FLC) annual awards competition. There are 32 award winners, including ORNL, for contributions to technology transfer, turning advanced research into impactful products and services. ORNL's Heartbeat and Situ technologies provide new methods for advanced cybersecurity monitoring in real time. The Heartbeat system collects power trace measurements directly from computer hardware, is undetectable to malware, and can withstand Internet service disruptions. Situ combines anomaly detection and data visualization to create a distributed, scalable streaming platform for detecting and explaining unusual behavior. This technology transfer is notable for licensee U2opia's proactive approach, combined with ORNL support, to achieve a novel solution to the significant cyberattack faced by the government and industry. This article continues to discuss ORNL's FLC awards.
