"ICS Ransomware Danger Rages Despite Fewer Attacks"

According to Dragos' latest industrial ransomware analysis, threat actors continue to develop new tactics while exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities in order to cause more damage to Industrial Control Systems (ICS) with fewer attacks. Dragos' analysis for the fourth quarter of 2023 reveals that the threat landscape is more sophisticated than ever before despite recent high-profile busts of ransomware operators such as Ragnar Locker and ALPHV. There were fewer ransomware attacks on industrial systems during the analysis period. Thirty-two of the 77 groups known to attack ICS were active in the last quarter, and the number of incidents decreased from 231 the previous year to 204 in the fourth quarter of 2023. The report does not give a specific reason as to why there has been a shift in the number of attacks, but it does note that the overall threat to ICS is still significant. Ransomware groups such as LockBit, BlackCat, Royal, and Akira have advanced in recent months. This article continues to discuss key findings regarding ICS ransomware attacks.
