"Fidelity Investments Notifying 28,000 People of Data Breach"

Fidelity Investments Life Insurance Company recently started informing roughly 28,000 individuals that their personal information was compromised in a data breach at third-party services provider Infosys McCamish System (IMS).  The data breach, Fidelity says, was the result of a cyberattack on IMS’ systems, which occurred in October 2023 and led to unauthorized access to data that IMS was holding on behalf of its customers.  Fidelity says the affected information includes names, dates of birth, states of residence, Social Security numbers, bank account and routing numbers, and credit card numbers.  According to Fidelity, the investigation into the scope of the data breach continues: “At this point, they are unable to determine with certainty what personal information was accessed as a result of this incident.”  The impacted individuals are being offered two years of credit monitoring at no cost.  IMS disclosed the cyberattack on November 3 in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission without sharing details on the nature of the incident.  In a subsequent filing, the company revealed that customer data was stolen from its systems, estimating losses at $30 million.
