"Department of Commerce Announces New Actions to Implement President Biden's Executive Order on AI"

The US Department of Commerce has made several new announcements related to President Biden's Executive Order (EO) on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released four draft publications to improve AI system safety, security, and trustworthiness. NIST has also launched a challenge series to support the development of methods for distinguishing between content made by humans and content generated by AI. The NIST publications cover various AI topics, with the first two guidance documents helping to manage the risks of generative AI. They complement NIST's AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) and Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF). This article continues to discuss new actions to implement the EO on AI safety, security, and trustworthiness.
