Issue 5 SoS Newsletter Now Available!

The newest issue of the CPS-VO Science of Security Newsletter is now available at http://cps-vo.org/node/15781! The Issue 5 Newsletter features a comprehensive distribution of notable topics, news items, publications, and updates within the world of computer security. This edition highlights the Science of Security Quarterly Lablet Meeting --  Lablet researchers convened at the University of Maryland, College Park, on October 28 and October 29, 2014 for organized presentations and collaborative discussions.

Researchers from universities Vanderbilt, Hawai'I, California-Berkeley, and MIT met to kick off the System Science of SecUrity and REsilience for Cyber-Physical Systems (SURE) project. SURE, aimed at improving scientific understanding of resiliency, robustness, and survivability, ultimately intends to provide designers and operators with tools that bolster resilience, and improves security decision-making and resource allocation.

This edition’s Publications of Interest invites readers to explore current research conducted on topics considered most challenging in the security world. Topics for Newsletter 5 include IP Piracy and the demand for intellectual property protection, Immersive Systems  or “virtual reality”, Provenance and its role in shared services and systems, Natural Language Processing, among several others. 

In the News povides a round-up of the security world’s most current news stories occurring within the US, as well as internationally. This edition covers Russian cyber-espionage campaign “Sandworm”, tensions between Chinese and US cyber-cooperation, “The Snapenning”, and recently discovered vulnerabilities and exploits.
