Deloitte surveyed professionals within the Internet of Things-connected medical device ecosystem, revealing what they think is the biggest challenge facing the medical industry in relation to cybersecurity. According to respondents, the identification and mitigation of risks associated with fielded and legacy connected devices is the biggest cybersecurity challenge for the medical industry. In the protection of medical devices against cyber threats, Deloitte suggests a layered approach which includes hierarchical documentation, performance of annual cybersecurity risk assessments, and forensic analysis in response to cybersecurity incidents. This article further discusses challenges faced in the cybersecurity of medical devices as well as a recommended approach to protecting medical devices against cyber threats.
