"Cyber Ransom Group Hits Soft Targets: US Schools"

A hacking group by the name of “The Dark Overlord” has recently began targeting U.S. school districts in an attempt to demonstrate the impacts of its attacks in order to pressure high-tech companies to succumb to their demands for ransom payments. The Dark Overlord is notorious for its attack on healthcare organizations in June 2016 in which sensitive information such as driver’s license scans, medical records, and surgery images were stolen and held for ransom. This article further discusses the tactics used by this hacking group, its recent targeting of U.S. schools, and other cases of demanded payments for ransoms by this group.
