"The Privacy Risks of Compiling Mobility Data"

MIT researchers have conducted a new study that reveals the risks posed by the practice of compiling anonymized data consisting of location stamps to the privacy of users. Data from mobile phone records, Twitter accounts, and more, can be merged by companies and researchers for the purpose of getting a better insight into the mobility of humans in order to improve services such as transportation. However, the practice of merging such data can be used to identify and gain information pertaining to the identities of users. This article further discusses the study and its findings.
