"Mozi Botnet Accounted for Majority of IoT Traffic: IBM"
According to IBM researchers, a relatively new botnet called Mozi made up 90% of the Internet of Things (IoT) network traffic observed between October 2019 and June 2020. Mozi has been effective through the use of command injection attacks, which depend on the misconfiguration of IoT devices. The rise in IoT device use and inadequate configuration protocols, as well as the increase in remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, are believed to be contributing factors behind the spike in IoT botnet activity. The Mozi botnet is a peer-to-peer (P2P) botnet and has targeted vulnerabilities in popular routers such as those from Huawei, Netgear, D-Link, and more. This article continues to discuss the Mozi botnet and its responsibility for the significant rise in IoT botnet activity.
