"60 Percent of Americans Have Smart TVs but Many Remain Unprotected"

A new study by the VPN provider NordVPN draws further attention to the possibility of hackers gaining access to a smart TV's camera and microphone through malware. Findings from the study reveal that nearly 60 percent of Americans own smart TVs, but many of them do not take any measures to protect their smart devices. Daniel Markuson, a digital security expert from NordVPN, points out that smart TVs, like other Internet-connected devices, collect a lot of private data, which raises privacy and security concerns. Unlike other smart devices, smart TVs do not come equipped with the latest cybersecurity software such as antivirus that can protect them from cyberattacks. Users should also be concerned about tracking as smart TVs contain many trackers. For example, Hulu, Netflix, and other streaming services collect data to track a user's viewing preferences and personalize their experience on the platforms. However, such data can fall into the hands of a hacker. A smart TV can also become infected with viruses if it is used to browse the web. This article continues to discuss the importance of strengthening the security of smart TVs.
