"Suit Blames Baby's Death on Cyberattack at Alabama Hospital"

In Alabama, a woman filed a lawsuit against Springhill Medical Center, claiming that the hospital did not disclose that its computer systems had been impacted by a cyberattack, thus resulting in improper care and death of her baby. The hospital was in the middle of a ransomware attack when the baby was born on July 17, 2019. According to the lawsuit filed by the mother, the doctor could not adequately monitor the child's condition during delivery due to the failure of electronic devices resulting from the ransomware attack, leaving the baby with brain injuries and other medical problems. After months of intensive care at a different hospital, the child died. The situation further highlights the impact that cyberattacks against hospitals, could have on the well-being of patients.
