"SolarMarker Malware Spread Through Advanced SEO Poisoning"

Sophos discovered malware called SolarMarker, a backdoor and information-stealing malware being spread through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) poisoning. SEO poisoning is a technique in which threat actors create malicious websites and use SEO strategies to make them appear above legitimate sites in search results. The malicious websites are usually associated with words that many individuals are likely to use in searches, such as holiday phrases, news items, and popular videos. In the case of SolarMarker, the links are designed to get visitors to download a fake Windows installer running a PowerShell script.
