"QNAP Devices Targeted in New Wave of DeadBolt Ransomware Attacks"

Censys has warned of a new wave of DeadBolt ransomware attacks that have been targeting QNAP Network-Attached Storage (NAS) devices. The number of DeadBolt-infected QNAP devices reached 5,000 on January 26. However, there has recently been a surge in QNAP device infections. According to Censys, there had been 1,146 infected QNAP devices on March 19. Deadbolt ransomware encrypts files stored on the infected devices and instructs victims to pay a 0.03 bitcoin ($1,200) ransom to recover their files. The ransomware operators also want to get 5 bitcoin ($200,000) from QNAP for information about the vulnerabilities they exploited, in addition to 50 bitcoin ($2 million) for a master key that can recover all victims' files. This article continues to discuss recent DeadBolt ransomware attacks against QNAP NAS devices, the design of DeadBolt ransomware, and the targeting of QNAP devices by other ransomware and malware families.
