"23 Million Accounts' Data Exposed in Mangatoon Data Breach"

A hacker accessed an insecure Elasticsearch database, exposing information from 23 million Mangatoon user accounts. Millions of people use the popular iOS and Android app Mangatoon for online manga comics. Recently, 23 million Mangatoon accounts were uploaded to the data breach reporting service Have I Been Pwned's platform (HIBP). The Mangatoon database was added after HIBP's owner, Troy Hunt, unsuccessfully attempted to contact the organization about the data breach. Mangatoon users can now look up their email address on HIBP to see if their account has been compromised. Several emails regarding the data breach have been sent to Mangatoon, but no response has been received. According to a well-known hacker with the handle "pompompurin," who claimed responsibility for the data theft, the database was stolen from an Elasticsearch server that was operating with weak credentials. This article continues to discuss the Mangatoon data breach.
