"Cyberattacks on Port of LA Double"

Gene Seroka, executive director at the Port of Los Angeles, stated that he has seen an extraordinary increase in cyberattacks targeting the port since the start of the pandemic.  The Port of Los Angeles is one of the world’s busiest ports and is the busiest port in the western hemisphere.  Seroka noted that the port is being bombarded with around 40 million cyberattacks each month.  Seroka stated that intelligence shows the threats are coming from Russia and parts of Europe.  Ransomware, malware, spear phishing, and credential harvesting attacks are apparently among the threats adversaries are using to target the facility.  In many cases, Seroka stated that the aim appears to be to cause disruption to the US economy, although profiteering from extortion and data theft is also a driver.
