"Migration Policy Org Confirms Cyberattack After Extortion Group Touts Theft"

The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) has confirmed that it experienced a cyberattack, which resulted in a data breach. ICMPD has operations in 90 countries, conducting migration-related research, projects, and activities. It currently has 19 member countries, most of which are European, and observer status at the UN. It collaborates with several UN and European agencies, as well as countries in Africa, Asia, and South America. Bernhard Schragl, ICMPD's communication coordinator, did not specify when the attack occurred but said that the attackers gained limited access to individual servers containing data. ICMPD formed a task force of internal and external IT experts to investigate the incident. The Karakurt extortion group launched the attack on ICMPD, claiming on Telegram that it stole financial documents, banking data, and personal information. The hacking group went on to say that it stole 375 GB of data, which included contract correspondence, contract scans, project budgets, financial and insurance documents, invoices, passports, mailboxes of key members of the organization, and more.
