"Report: US Businesses Experience 42 Cyberattacks per Year"

Keeper Security has released its second annual 2022 US Cybersecurity Census Report, mapping the evolving cybersecurity landscape based on expert insights from over 500 IT decision-makers in US businesses. The findings from this year show that, while cybersecurity is a top priority, staying one step ahead of threat actors is a constant challenge, and many businesses are falling behind. According to survey respondents, US businesses face an average of 42 cyberattacks yearly, and about three of those cyberattacks are successful. Furthermore, most respondents expect the total number of attacks to rise over the next year, with 39 percent expecting the number of successful cyberattacks to increase too. The report also highlighted that the financial, reputational, and organizational costs of these attacks are rising, with businesses being unable to perform critical operations, losing contracts, and more. The average amount of money stolen due to a cyberattack was over $75,000, and 37 percent of organizations lost $100,000 or more. Still, 32 percent of IT leaders in the US lack a management platform for IT secrets such as Application Programming Interface (API) keys, database passwords, and privileged credentials. A single stolen password can trigger a devastating cyberattack, yet less than half (48 percent) of the respondents plan to invest in password management, network visibility tools, or infrastructure secrets management. This article continues to discuss key findings shared in Keeper Security's 2022 US Cybersecurity Census Report.
