"Hive Ransomware Claims Attack on New York Racing Association"
The Hive ransomware operation claimed responsibility for an attack on the New York Racing Association (NYRA), which had previously disclosed that a cyberattack on June 30, 2022, had disrupted IT operations and website availability, as well as compromised member data. NYRA operates three of New York's largest thoroughbred horse racing tracks, including Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course. The threat actors may have exfiltrated Social Security Numbers (SSNs), driver's license identification numbers, health records, health insurance information, according to security breach notifications sent to impacted individuals late last month. By listing NYRA as a victim on their extortion site, the Hive ransomware gang claimed responsibility for the attack. The hackers have also published a link to a ZIP archive containing all of the files they allegedly stole from NYRA's systems, implying that negotiations for a ransom payment have failed. Hive is currently one of the most active high-tier ransomware gangs, having recently targeted Bell Canada and the Damart clothing store chain, as well as announcing several additional victims who have not publicly admitted a security incident. This article continues to discuss the Hive ransomware gang claiming responsibility for the attack on NYRA.
