"Telstra Suffers 'Sizeable' Data Breach, Mandates Two-Step Security Upgrade"

Telstra, Australia's largest telecoms operator, has experienced a data breach and has informed customers that they must enable two-factor authentication (2FA). The announcement of enhanced security measures comes just two weeks after a similar attack on its rival Optus. Telstra confirmed the data breach involved access to employee information, but it was not a Telstra system breach. Instead, a third-party platform was breached and used to access the telecom's data. The company confirmed that the data compromised belonged only to Telstra employees and included first names, last names, and email addresses. The data breach affected about 30,000 past and present employees, with the information being posted on Breach Forum, the same forum where data involved in the Optus breach was posted. The hack involved information handled by a third-party for the telecom's WorkLife NAB rewards program for employees, which Pegasus Group Australia/MyRewards International manages. This article continues to discuss findings regarding the the Telstra data breach.
