"Family Medical Informs 234K Patients of Possible Data Compromise"

After a network data security incident on July 26, Family Medical Center (FMC) Services notified 233,948 patients that their data was potentially compromised. FMC is a network of 75 primary care clinics in the Texas cities of Amarillo and Canyon. When the incident was discovered, FMC implemented countermeasures and launched an investigation. The forensics did not reveal whether any data had been specifically accessed for misuse. However, patients were informed that their data could have been compromised as a result of the attack. Names, SSNs, contact information, and Protected Health Information (PHI) were among the information compromised. Identity monitoring services will be provided to all affected patients. In another incident, a hacker gained access to multiple employee email accounts at Tessie Cleveland Community Services, potentially exposing information about 9,747 patients. The accounts included patient names, demographic information, health insurance identification numbers, limited care data, and some SSNs. The forensics determined that the email hack was most likely intended to commit business fraud rather than compromise patient data. Access, however, could not be ruled out. Tessie is providing free credit monitoring services to patients and has since implemented additional network and email security measures. This article continues to discuss the FMC security incident, the Tessie Cleveland Community Services hack, and other security incidents recently faced by health organizations.
