"Russian-Speaking Hackers Take Credit For Taking Down Websites Belonging to US State Governments"

A Russian-speaking hacker gang is claiming responsibility for the takedown of several websites belonging to state governments in the US. The Kentucky Board of Elections website, which provides voter registration information, was also hacked despite the fact that the organization had not explicitly named it as a target. A translation of a Telegram post from the hacking organization Killnet reveals state websites were included in a list of targets. Along with a website for paying taxes in the US, the list included state government websites from Florida, Alabama, Delaware, Hawaii, and more. The hacker collective has claimed responsibility for several attacks on US and international targets, including disruptions of public and commercial sector websites in Lithuania earlier this year and an attempted attack on websites in Estonia. Although it is unclear how the Russian-speaking hackers are linked to the Russian government, they appear to be supporters of the Kremlin. This article continues to discuss a Russian-speaking hacker gang taking credit for taking down government websites.
