"2023 Forecast: Zero Trust Maturing, Cyber Pros Stretched Thin"

The shortage of experienced cyber professionals is anticipated to be an ongoing issue in cybersecurity in the next year. However, development is expected in areas such as zero trust security, cloud adoption, and the continuous implementation of enterprise Information Technology (IT) practices. These are the key takeaways from experts at the cloud security vendor Zscaler, who provided MeriTalk with predictions for 2023. According to Danny Connolly, CISO for Americas and public sector at Zscaler, cybersecurity staff is already spread thin across federal and public sector organizations. In 2023, cybersecurity professionals on the front lines will have to make difficult decisions about where to use their limited resources and the programs they are involved in, in order to strike a good balance while responding to evolving threats, he said. This may eventually push cloud-based security solutions and managed services in an effort to maximize and offload resource-constrained teams. Connolly stated that as organizations transition to zero trust security architectures, they will continue to look to federal standards. The zero trust maturity model published by the US Homeland Security Department's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) will become the de facto standard for both market sectors. This article continues to discuss cybersecurity predictions for 2023.
