"RI Housing And Mortgage Finance Agency Hit by Data Breach"

Mortgage customers of Rhode Island Housing have recently received notices from a third-party vendor that their personal information was involved in a data breach in the spring.  NewCourse Communications sent the notices to Rhode Island Housing customers in December.  NewCourse, which sends mortgage statements to customers, told the state that various mortgage agencies served by the company were affected.  According to the company, information such as customer's names, addresses, and last four digits of their Social Security numbers were compromised, but not more highly sensitive information such as full Social Security numbers or dates of birth.  NewCourse noted that there's no evidence that the compromised information has been used improperly.  NewCourse is offering a year of free credit monitoring services to mortgage customers who were involved.
