"Nissan Data Breach Exposed Client's Full Names and Dates of Birth"

Nissan North America announced a data breach that impacted around 18,000 of its clients. According to the breach notification Nissan sent to affected consumers, a third-party vendor that provides software development services to the manufacturer leaked user data. Nissan states that the leaked data included the names, birth dates, and Nissan Motor Acceptance Company (NMAC) numbers of the company's clients. On June 21, 2022, Nissan discovered that specific data it provided to the vendor had been accidentally disclosed. Three months later, on September 26, 2022, the company's investigation revealed that user data had been accessed without authorization. The data included in the code during software testing was unintentionally and temporarily stored in a cloud-based public repository. This article continues to discuss the Nissan data breach and cybersecurity experts' criticism of companies taking months to notify customers that their data leaked online.
