"NSA Releases Best Practices for Securing Your Home Network"

The National Security Agency (NSA) has released a Cybersecurity Information Sheet (CSI) titled "Best Practices for Securing Your Home Network" to help remote workers improve the security of their home networks from malicious cyber actors. In the age of telework, a home network can be used as an access point for nation-state actors and cybercriminals to steal critical information, according to Neal Ziring, NSA Cybersecurity Technical Director. Ziring emphasized that this risk can be reduced by protecting devices and networks, as well as by practicing safe online behavior. The CSI provides NSA's recommendations for protecting routing devices, establishing wireless network segmentation, maintaining privacy during telework, and more. For example, in order to keep one's wireless communications confidential, NSA urges ensuring the personal or ISP-provided WAP is capable of Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3). If devices on the network do not support WPA3, the user can select WPA2/3 instead, allowing newer devices to use the more secure method while still allowing older devices to connect to the network over WPA2. This article continues to discuss NSA's new CSI on best practices for securing home networks.
