"Methodologies and Methods to Improve IoT Security"

Deral Heiland, the Internet of Things (IoT) research lead at Rapid7, gave a presentation at the RSA Conference in which he discussed the development of a comprehensive IoT security testing methodology. The methodology would help companies determine the traits of IoT to improve the detection and security of such technology. The traits of IoT are based on four key areas, including management control, cloud service APIs and storage, the capability to be moved to the cloud, and embedded technology. Heiland emphasized the importance of knowing the traits of IoT and applying a methodology to build and test IoT in order to improve the protection of a company's ecosystem. This article continues to discuss Heiland's IoT testing methodology and the elements needed to reach a higher level of IoT security.
