"Surge in Compromised Credentials Highlights Rampant Cyber Hygiene Failings"

Security experts are warning over the significant growth in exposed account passwords after a repository of compromised credentials surpassed five billion records. This month, Authlogics, a UK-based provider of password security technologies for governments and large businesses, said that its Password Breach Database surpassed the landmark number, bringing further attention to concerning password security trends. The database managed by Authlogics is the world's largest collection of hacked password credentials, and the number of exposed credentials has increased significantly over the past few years. Authlogics revealed that the database receives over one million updates daily, with exposed credentials "responsibly sourced" from public domain free resources such as online forums, torrents, paste bins, and dark web sites. Steven Hope, product director of MFA at Intercede and founder of Authlogics, noted that the new milestone highlights the increasingly dangerous threat landscape that organizations and individual users must face. This article continues to discuss Authlogics' Password Breach Database reaching a landmark total of five billion records and other recent research regarding poor password practices.
