"A Third of the Internet Is Under DoS Attack"

Researchers from the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis, based at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, UC San Diego, have conducted an extensive study in which they revealed that one-third of the IPv4 address space was susceptible to some form of DoS attacks. The global analysis performed from March 2015 to February 2017, examined victims of internet DoS attacks. During the study, researchers discovered that more than twenty million DoS attacks targeted an estimated 2.2 million slash 24 internet addresses. This article further discusses the significance of this discovery, how the study was conducted, two main types of DoS attacks, major targets of such attacks, possible causes for the recent rise is DoS attacks, and the increased interest in outsourcing protection to third parties.
