"9M Health Records Spilled by Transcription Firm"

A cyberattack on the medical transcription service provider Perry Johnson & Associates (PJ&A) compromised the personal and health information of 9 million Americans. The attack, which has yet to be linked to a specific threat actor, was the second-largest breach of health-related data in the US this year. In July, HCA Healthcare reported a breach involving the theft of 11 million patient records. On October 31, PJ&A notified affected individuals that its systems had been breached between March 27 and May 2, with hackers gaining access to personal health information between April 7 and April 19. The true scale of the attack was revealed only recently when PJ&A notified the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that the incident had affected 8,952,212 people. Although the details stolen differed from patient to patient, the company noted that the compromised information could include patients' names, dates of birth, addresses, medical record numbers, hospital account numbers, their diagnosis, and the dates they received treatment. This article continues to discuss the PJ&A data breach.
