"BEC Campaign via Israel Spotted Targeting Large Multinational Companies"

An Israel-based threat group is conducting a Business Email Compromise (BEC) campaign primarily against large and multinational companies with an average annual revenue of over $10 billion. According to researchers at Abnormal Security who discovered the attacks, the group has carried out 350 BEC campaigns targeting employees in 61 countries across six continents since February 2021. The attackers masquerade as the CEO and then pass the communication to a second external persona, typically a mergers and acquisitions attorney, who is responsible for overseeing the payment process. In some cases, once the second stage of an attack has been reached, the attackers request that the conversation transition from email to a WhatsApp voice call in order to accelerate the attack and reduce the likelihood of leaving a trail of evidence.
