"Bell Canada Subsidiary Hit by Hive Ransomware Attack"

Bell Technical Solutions (BTS), a subsidiary of Bell Canada, has confirmed a data breach that exposed Personal Identifiable Information (PII) belonging to its Ontario and Quebec-based customers. The gang behind the Hive ransomware, which previously affected the Costa Rican healthcare system and the French Telco Altice, has claimed responsibility for the security breach. On August 20, BTS' systems were compromised and encrypted, according to a data leak blog. Microsoft's Threat Intelligence Center revealed earlier this year that it had discovered a new variant of the Hive ransomware based on the Rust programming language, which also included a more efficient structure, improved obfuscation, and hardened encryption. According to BTS' cybersecurity alert, the perpetrators may have obtained the names, addresses, and phone numbers of residential and small business customers in Ontario and Québec who scheduled a technician visit. Despite the severity of the attack, Bell assured customers that their banking information was not accessed or stolen. This article continues to discuss the BTS data breach and the Hive ransomware gang claiming to be responsible for the incident.
