"Companies Still Struggle With SOC Staff Shortages, Security Skills Gap"

A survey conducted by Exabeam to which 295 respondents in the U.S., Canada, Germany, and Austalia responded, give insight into how analysts and security operations center (SOC) leaders perceive their operations, technologies, hiring and staffing, retention, and more. Findings of the survey shared in Exabeam's 2020 State of the SOC Report reveal that most security teams are overconfident in their ability to detect cyber threats despite the lack of focus on hacker dwell time and the continued struggle with SOC staff shortages. There is also a disagreement between SOC leaders and frontline analysts regarding the most common threats facing organizations, with SOC leaders citing phishing and supply chain vulnerabilities as the most significant problems. In contrast, analysts believe DDoS attacks and ransomware are the greatest threats. This article continues to discuss the key findings of Exabeam's survey concerning the perception of current staffing levels, hiring challenges, common threats facing organizations, and technology trends.
