"Cybersecurity in the Metaverse Will Require New Approaches"

The PwC 2022 US Metaverse Survey, which included more than 5,000 consumers and 1,000 US business leaders, reveals that 50 percent of consumers find the metaverse exciting, while 66 percent of executives report that their organizations are actively engaged in it. The metaverse may become the next generation of the Internet, resulting in significant marketing and e-commerce opportunities. However, there will be challenges, the biggest of which is likely to be cybersecurity. The metaverse platform will include various advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), complex 3D graphics, high-end sensors, edge computing, blockchain payments, and more. These technologies will expose the metaverse to numerous vulnerabilities. There are a number of potential risks associated with the metaverse, including brand phishing, malware, identity theft, money laundering, and disinformation.
