"Cybersecurity's Importance and Impact Reaches All Levels of the Tech Workforce"

According to new CyberSeek data, employer demand for cybersecurity professionals continues to put a strain on talent availability. Employers listed 769,736 openings for cybersecurity positions or jobs requiring cybersecurity skills for the 12-month period ending September 2022. Employer demand for cybersecurity workers increased 2.4 times faster than the overall rate of growth in the US economy. Although there has been a slight decrease in hiring activity in recent months from the record volumes of earlier this year, total cybersecurity job postings for Q3 2022 were 30 percent higher than in the same period in 2021 and 68 percent higher than in 2020. The supply-demand ratio remained stable at 65, indicating that for every 100 cybersecurity job postings, there are approximately 65 cybersecurity workers in the labor market, with the vast majority already employed. Data show that the demand for cybersecurity skills in specific occupations has risen dramatically in the last year. The cybersecurity field is evolving into more specialized fields, such as penetration testing and threat analysis. Similar increases in cybersecurity skill requirements can be found in related positions such as auditor (+336 percent), software developer (+87 percent), cloud architect (+83 percent), and technical support engineer (+48 percent). This article continues to discuss key findings from CyberSeek's data on cybersecurity's impact on the technology workforce.
