CyberSTEM Camps at Maryland CyberSecurity Center (2018)

MC2 facilitates a wide variety of educational opportunities on the UMD campus. MC2 also sponsors a number of educational/outreach events for lower-school, middle-school, and high-school students, especially targeting women and under-represented minorities. MC2 will host two camps in Summer 2018 focusing on STEM and cybersecurity topics.

CyberSTEM Camp for Girls entering 7th and 8th Grade
Dates: Monday, July 16, 2018 – Friday, July 20, 2018

This 5 day experience provides hands-on activities focused on STEM and cybersecurity topics. Attendees will learn and apply basic concepts of programming, forensics, cryptography, and program management from a series of gaming, modeling, and simulation activities, which explore the interconnections of science, math, technology, and computers. This is the fifth year that this camp is being offered. The goal is to allow young women to explore various topics within the STEM and cybersecurity fields by linking research to practice through hands-on experience.

Intermediate CyberSTEM Camp for Girls entering 9th and 10th Grade
Dates: Monday, July 23, 2018 – Friday, July 27, 2018

This 5 day experience provides hands-on activities focused on STEM and cybersecurity topics. Attendees will learn and apply basic concepts of programming, computer forensics, cryptography, steganography, system vulnerabilities and program management from a series of gaming, modeling, simulation activities and hands-on exercises, which explore the interconnections of science, math, technology, and computers. Participants did NOT need to attend our CyberSTEM middle school camp in order to be eligible. This camp covers similar content areas as CyberSTEM camp for 7th and 8th graders, and allows for a deeper and more in-depth exploration of the subject matter.

Cyber Defense Training Camp
Dates: Sunday, July 8 – Saturday, July 15, 2018

Cyber Defense Training Camp is an intermediate level* 7 day residential summer program for high school men and women (rising juniors and seniors). Participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of cybersecurity and gain practical skills through instruction by an experienced security professional. Students learn about career options in the field, take at least one field trip and hear from a variety of speakers to learn more about how to prepare to enter this exciting profession.  Additionally, students will be introduced to the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) honors program offered at the University of Maryland.
