"Data Breach at PFC USA Impacts Patients of 650 Healthcare Providers"

Recently accounts receivable management firm Professional Finance Company (PFC USA) started sending out data breach notification letters to patients of over 650 healthcare providers across the country.  The Northern Colorado-based company has been engaged in debt recovery for over a century, working with healthcare, financial, retail, and government organizations. On July 1, PFC USA announced that it has started notifying impacted individuals that their personal and health information might have been compromised during a February 2022 ransomware attack. The company noted that because the attackers were able to access and disable some of the company’s computers, personal information stored on those systems might have been compromised, and PFC notified the potentially impacted healthcare providers on May 5. The information that the attackers might have accessed includes names, addresses, birth dates, accounts receivable balance and payments information, Social Security numbers, and health insurance and medical treatment information. PFC did not say how many individuals were potentially impacted in the data breach, but it shared a list of impacted healthcare providers, containing a total of 657 entries.
