“Hackers Can Remotely Access and Manipulate Wireless Syringe Infusion Pumps”

Security researcher, Scott Gayou, has discovered multiple vulnerabilities within Medfusion 4000 wireless syringe infusion pumps. The wireless syringe infusion pump is a medical device used to give small doses of medication to patients. The exploitation of eight vulnerabilities discovered within these devices could allow hackers to remotely access the device and manipulate its operations. The US Industrial Control Systems (ICS) CERT has released a warning about these vulnerabilities. This article further discusses the uses of this device, what these vulnerabilities could allow hackers to do if exploited, the impacts of these vulnerabilities, and Smith Medical’s response to this discovery.
