"Hackers Steal $3.5M Worth of Digital Assets From GMX Whale"

On January 3, many people observed suspicious GMX token movements. Following this, CertiK and PeckShield identified the transactions as an exploit that drained a GMX whale of $3.4 million worth of GMX tokens. According to the data analysis website Lookonchain, the hackers took over 82,519 GMX tokens and exchanged the assets for 2,627 Ether. The attackers then used Hop Protocol and Across Protocol to cross-chain the assets to the Ethereum network. As a result of the breach, the token's value plunged to $38 before regaining shortly thereafter. Hackers targeting Decentralized Finance (DeFi) networks have been active during the holiday season. On December 25, 2022, a flash loan attack liquidated Defrost Finance users, stealing digital assets valued at $12 million. The following day, a second DeFi hack occurred, with hackers removing approximately $8 million from Bitkeep wallets using compromised APKs.
