"International Counter Ransomware Task Force Kicks Off"

An international task force aimed at combating ransomware, which was unveiled at a White House event in November 2022, has officially begun operations, according to the Australian government. The mission of the International Counter Ransomware Task Force (ICRTF) is to foster collaboration between 36 member states and the European Union in order to prevent the spread and impact of ransomware, which has become a national security threat in recent years. Members of the Counter Ransomware Initiative (CRI) announced the ICRTF following a two-day conference hosted by the Biden administration. It intends to help member states exchange information and intelligence about the threats they face, as well as encourage law enforcement and cyber authorities to collaborate. Following a series of devastating incidents impacting organizations that operate critical infrastructure, such as the Colonial Pipeline in the US, or contribute to critical services, such as the South Staffordshire Water utilities company in Britain, ransomware attacks have rapidly become a major concern for many states. This article continues to discuss the official commencement of ICRTF operations and the goals of this task force.
