"Marshall, WVSU Receive Funds to Establish Cyber Security Center for Critical Infrastructure"

The US Department of Education has granted Marshall University and West Virginia State University $1.5 million to construct a "Cyber Security Center for Critical Infrastructure" at each institution. Funds will be used to expand capacity at Marshall and West Virginia State Universities to address cybersecurity challenges associated with the state's critical infrastructure. The universities will also pilot cybersecurity training programs for operators of critical infrastructure in their respective industries. Marshall and West Virginia State can use the grant funding to develop laboratory facilities and a virtual laboratory across both institutions, as well as to provide technical short courses for operators in the critical infrastructure industries, where the operators can learn how to defend critical infrastructure equipment against cyberattacks from the laboratories. Understanding how Internet-connected control systems function, are set up, and are accessed is necessary for securing the systems of critical infrastructure. This article continues to discuss the new cybersecurity center for critical infrastructure that will be developed by Marshall University in partnership with West Virginia State University through funding from the US Department of Education.
