"A National Science Foundation Grant Will Help USF Recruit Students to Fight Cybercrime"

More than $29 million in new funding is being provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to promote the development of a skilled cybersecurity workforce. The NSF stated that the funds will be used to address cybersecurity professional recruitment and retainment challenges. This includes almost $4 million in financing for the University of South Florida (USF), where Cyber Florida: The Florida Center for Cybersecurity and the Global and National Security Institute (GNSI) are located. This funding will give scholarships and support to at least 28 graduate and undergraduate students in the US, who will work with and be mentored by Cyber Florida and GNSI professionals. The new program is called Cybersecurity Research in Education for Government Service (CREST). The students commit to working in cybersecurity for a federal, state, local, or tribal government organization for the same period of time for which they received the scholarships. This article continues to discuss the NSF grant aimed at developing a cybersecurity workforce and the new CREST program.
