New National Security Strategy

The White House released a new National Security Strategy. The key relevance here is that Cyber is one of the goals to keep America safe. It starts off with how cyber is important. The Priority Actions are:

  • IDENTIFY AND PRIORITIZE RISK - Examine these sections, national security, energy and power, banking and finance, health and safety, communications, and
  • transportation.
  • BUILD DEFENSIBLE GOVERNMENT NETWORKS - use commercial solutions, shared services, and best practices. Make federal networks resilient.
  • DETER AND DISRUPT MALICIOUS CYBER ACTOR - The US will impose costly consequences on those who do significant malicious activities. Will promote deterrence by having US networks so secure that adversaries will have doubt at being able to succeed.
  • IMPROVE INFORMATION SHARING AND SENSING - Improve attribution. Share information with critical infrastructure partners while respecting privacy and civil liberties.
  • DEPLOY LAYERED DEFENSES - Work at blocking cyber attacks on the Internet backbone.

There are lots of new articles out there with many opinions of the strategy. You can find what you want there. However, the link to the strategy: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/NSS-Final-12-18-2017-0905.pdf
